Trick - A/C Comp install in 4.5
If you've ever had to "hang" the a/c compressor on a 4.5,
you know what a pain it is. I've spent hours at this before, and I did it again tonite. This time I found "trick" that helped me. The problem is the thing is heavy as heck and there are two 1/2" spacer/washers on the rear that will not stay in place. Very un-mercedes like, but this was an american compressor..... My trick - With the car up on ramps (rear on ground), hang the front upper corner of the comp first (small bolt) (note comp flange goes outside the comp bracket (at least it does on mine). then hang the rear upper corner (by rotating the comp towards engine) Now crawl under the machine and wiggle the comp around so you can get the lower rear spacer in place. Slip that lower rear bolt in and have a beverage... It takes just a few minutes once you know the trick... (but it took a couple of hours of dinking around to get there...) |

Joey -- Nice tip. However, I have read many of your posts and must observe that you seem to invariably insert "have a beverage" in some part(s) of the instructions
