W111 Seat Belts
Greetings,
When my 220Sb joined our family, she had front shoulder belts, that appear to be original based on her data card. I am interested in finding 3-point seat belts/shoulder harnesses to replace the shoulder belts. Are there 3-point belt arrangements from the W111 or later chassis models that will work as replacements? Thanks |

Is your Fintail a European model? Many years ago, my Dad bought a '66 Euro 250SE with factory Kangol shoulder belts in front but, strangely, without lap belts! Cars sold in the US were required to have factory-installed lap-belt mounts in 1962, then factory lap-belts in '64. In 1968, front seat 3-point lap & shoulder belts were required.
Your car should already have the anchor mounts built in to the sills or floor for the 3-point belts. If you're going to replace your existing seatbelts, 3-point belts from a '68 or later car could work in yours, but I recommend getting new ones, rather than risk your life with used belts. After 10 - 20 years or more, the straps will have weakened from wear, weather and sun exposure. There are new vintage-style 3-point belts with the '60s type chrome buckles availible from different vendors. I got a set for my '60 Fintail from J C Whitney. You can also contact the manufacturer of my belts, Beam Industries of Oklahoma City, Ok., directly for information on suppliers. Happy Motoring, Mark
