After doing a search on limited slip diffs. I came across a post in which MB Doc advised to only use a special limited slip oil. This was for a much newer car. Does the same recommendation apply to my '71 280SE ?
thanks! -Larry

Straight from the manual
Approved oil grades for rear axles w/o limited slip - Hypoid oil SAE 90.
Approved oil grades for rear axles with limited slip (pay attention to reference plate on rear axle carrier) - Special hypoid oil SAE 90. When looking at the many gear oils at the store, you will see some marked specifically for use in limited slip differentials. If the 280SE has a limited slip rear end, that is what you need.

differential oil
I note that gear oil comes as: GL-4, GL-5, and GL-5 Plus. The latter two are identified as being for limited slip differentials. What does the Plus indicate?
