US bumpers-450SE

Hi gang, I am new to this forum, and not sure how much this subject has ever been covered, search does not reveal much.

I have a lead on a near-mint '74 450SE. Have seen pics, looks really awesome, looks rust-free even. Problem is...you guessed it. I just can't get past those really unfortunate federal bumpers.

I am a huge fan of the older Benzes, but these bumpers really ruin the fine lines of the 70s cars...for me anyway. I know they are still awesome old cruisers, but if I could swap them out for the '73 model/euro versions without too much difficulty, that would be great. I am a fairly competent DIYer

Is it at all possible to, um, 'forward'-retrofit '73 bumpers+hardware to '74 up W116s? And if so, anybody know a good source for the old slimline pieces?

Many thanks!

Yeah, that's so much better.

Is it bad because welding and/or redrilling mounting holes is involved? Are those on your car from a dismantler or are they NOS?

you have to drill two holes fabricate a few captive nut inserts..and tweak the mounting points on the bumbers to match the body holes...no welding needed. I got these used...wasn't cheap. Paid $550 for the set shipped from the west coast a couple years ago. Eurolights cost me $75 (OEM BOSCH)
