Can anyone point me to an exploded diagram of the 230SL mechanical fuel injection pump?

I recommend the Mercedes "glovebox parts catalog" for your car. They come up on e-Bay once in a while.

Actually there is one now on e-Bay. Do a search on "Mercedes 230" or go to item 544843973. At least is it will show what I am talking about.

Clive,

First off, the parts books won't show the pump disasembled.
The service book might show pieces of it.

What are you trying to do, take it apart, clean it and reassemble?

Check out http://www.mbz.org and look for the list of suppliers and shops. There is a place called Pacific fuel injection out in California that most definitely would have what you're looking for. They're about the best on the planet for this level of rebuild.

Oh, and I just bought a 230SL dealer parts book from a guy in london for 35pounds and is shipping it to me in NY.

Thanks for the advice.I am a mech who is just helping a friend who took the actuating lever of the side of the pump for plating.This is a definite NO-NO as the lever externally stops disengagement of a ball internally.After a lot of searching I have found a 30 page manual on this pump(the pics arn't good but its all there)If anyone wants this I have it as a zip file or I could find the site again.I took the bull by the horns,removed the pump,stripped the rear end and fixed the problem.All is well again.
Would be interested in the London parts book man though.

Found the site don't be put off by the Porsche stuff as this is primarily for them but you will soon pick the wheat from the chaff if you look carefully.

I have a book of Boche parts for the care & feeding of your benz. It has exploded views of distributors & headlights and the like. Lo & behold, it has EFI units.
