6.9 Clatter from front suspension
All
Here is a new one that just started today on my 6.9. I new appear to be getting a clack clack clack sounding noise (that was the technical term) from the front end when I pull away. At speeds its not noticable but on hard acceleration it is pretty much blatant.I had the tires changed recently and while the car was on the lift, I shook the wheels and everything appeared to be tight. I have been driving the car enthusiastically over the last couple of days.. What do I need to check? Would a front control arm mount kit that contains all of the following bushings cover everything that I need? As always any advice is appreciated.

We gotta know more about the Crusty's clackety-clack..... Am reminded of low speed sreechety-schreech that turned out to be right rear wheel bearing on an old 114 of mine long time ago.
Try idling the car in gear at walking speed alongside a wall that will reflect noise, say during quiet nightime, to help you source the sound with all windows rolled down and no fan or radio on. That's how I pinpointed the right rear wheel bearing problem. Another thing I'd be checkin is worn out flex discs underneath that can send the driveshaft into orbit. |

Flex disk
Where would that guy be?
I am really considering replacing all the rubber (or as much as possible) in the front end. I plan on holding on to this car. Any advice on which bushings should be replaced first?

Flex disc is the rubber donut with bolts going through it - between the tranny and driveshaft and rear end.
Getting tranny mounts done at the same time is good idea because disconnecting the flex disc makes installing tranny mounts easier. Gotta paint mark tranny mount fittings at their old original location too...... so new ones dont get installed wrong - tilting the driveshaft and causing the death of flex discs. |

Flex disk
Ahhhh .... A prop shaft doughnut! This is what it's call back home.. I am not sure it is this because typcially you can feel that guy in the transmission tunnel...
It seemed to be coming from the drivers side front but I pulled the wheel off and it seemed tight there (also gave the wheel a good shake before taking it off). When spinining the hub with the wheel off I could see that there is a little high spot where the disc rubs slightly against the caliper. The disc is new so could it be just mounted badly? I need to get the bushings done and then take the car to an allignment shop and get it done. If course I put everything back together again and drove it around the underground garage to see if I could hear it again (it was quite and the walls bounced the noises back nicely). I couldnt reproduce the sound.
