Exclamation Old Mercedes advice and help.

Hello everyone. Sorry for making my first post a new thread but I just need some quick advice on what to do with some of my grandpa's old cars. He has a house down in Southern California that he hasn't been to in over 10 years and I will be moving in there shortly to attend a near by school. Basically I need to clean the place up and I'm not sure what I should do with the three Mercedes that he has on the property.

I know absolutely nothing about older Mercedes so please forgive me if I sound ignorant. Should I just hand over the pinks and have someone haul them away and scrap them or are they worth something? Also if anyone could possible give me an idea of how old they are I would appreciate it. Hopefully someone will know something despite the poor pictures and the tarps.
Thanks again for the help

DO NOT hand over the "pinks" to the ones with the "rounded" bodies. Take pics of them and put them on ebay. If the floorboards are not rusted through they will be worth something to somebody - they are called Ponton's and are neat old cars.
Get the model numbers off of the trunk and post what they are - 220S, etc...?

Thanks for the help.

Again, if rust is at a minimum then by all means they are worth going to the trouble to sell them. I'd be over there tonight trying to talk you out of the pontoons if you were closer than 30 miles.

Have you ever sold anything on ebay? I'd most definitely put the pontoons on there. Put the reserve low to make sure they sell. Secret to successful selling on ebay is that you do not want there to be any surprises.

Hockeyplayer: We can tell you, if you give us the VINs, the model numbers of the cars, their engines, and what they might be worth. I suggest you look for them. (Post at least the first six digits, it looks like one will be 109.xxx, for example).

If the gray round-body happens to be an "SE" fuel injected model with red leather interior..... figure at least $1,000 on ebay even as-is, or could be worth alot more - verrry desirable the fuelie bathtub benz.

From what I can see in both photos (bullet turn signals below the headlighs), both of the round-bodies are base model 4-cylinder Pontons. Judging from the grey car's lack of shiny trim and fat bumper, that's most likely a '59 - '61 180b. If the 2 Pontons have solid bodies and aren't gutted, stripped-out shells, they're worth saving.

Bob Gunthorp is in Chula Vista, south of San Diego, and has a vintage MB service and salvage business by the name of Onager. Might give him a call.

I agree with the ponton, about that year 180 or 190. The white one looks like a 1966 w108 ,250 or 280. Neither car looks like its worth a lot. I like the fact tthe pnton has the original plate. The 108 has the exhaust dropped so wonder what the engine bay looks like. On the 108 I don't think it would get $1000, same with the ponton. Both cars have been sitting for years and the tranny and engine are basically junk. If anything sell it cheap to a guy who is going to restore it, but don't expect much. Your better off selling them to a person who works on them as you will get better money then with a wrecker.

I am amazed at the little amount of rust on those cars!

There's gotta be all kinds of stuff on there that is worth saving!

I was thinking it's a 109 because it looks so low to the ground (flat air suspension), but it could be the grass around it on 2nd look. The plant is blocking the tail lens, so you can't tell if it's red or amber (older or newer). At any rate, these look to have little to no major rust on them, so they might fetch a good price as a "shell car" for someone with a good drivetrain.

Strange, when you talk about cleaning up Grandpa's property by ditching the cars..... i think most of us here would rather clean up the cars and ditch the rest of the property.

Selling the Pontoons as a pair oughta be the way to go. Covering em with tarps probably saved the interiors. Looks like grandpa knew what he was doing.
