White smoke - new heads - fuel or gasket ?
I'm trying to chase down a white smoke issue with new heads on my 4.5L.
It's either a coolant leak or fuel issues, looking for some ideas. I redid the heads and had the injectors cleaned by cruizin' performance. When I first started up, I got fairly rough running and no power at throttle. New bosch supers. Vac gauge showed low, so I went about chasing/fixing vacuum leaks. Found my aux air valve was cracked, so I replaced it. It was running better, but then I started seeing white smoke and lots of it. A TON off the driver's side, whisps off the pass side. Happens when cold, but takes a few 10-15 seconds before it appears. I retorqued heads per manual, still white smoke. Smoke is "wet" to touch and has strong smell of fuel. Pulled the plugs on driver's side, found all had strong fuel smell and black (fouled). The ones toward the front were worse... At this point, I don't know if I'm chasing a fuel problem or a head/block/gasket failure that fouled the plugs... Any way to tell ? thx, joe |
