w108 won't start - no electrics
So as you know I inherited a '68 280se from my aunt. It has been started regularly and driven and serviced to keep it in running condition for the last 15years. It runs well and is in great shape. I don't live in the city where it is kept but mom and dad do, so I had my mom pick it up and move it from my aunt's garage to my parent's garage, a 30min drive.
Today, my dad was going to take pictures of the car to send to me so I could share them on the forum. When he tried to start the car, nothing happened. No starter motor, no warning lights, everything dead, radio won't turn on etc...electrics won't work. The car started fine when my mom picked it up last week at my aunts and my aunt never had this problem before. But now that it is in their garage it won't start. Is the battery dead, or could it be the alternator not working? Any ideas what's going on? |

Could be a dead battery (How old is it?) or a bad connection at one of the battey cables. You can check it with a !2 volt test light or voltmeter.
Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks for the advice, will be checking the battery today. I'm hoping it just needs a new battery.

Usually, if the alternator is bad, the light on the dash will light up. If it doesn't light up in the "Run" position when the engine is off, it might be burned out.
More likely it's a loose cable or you left a light on somewhere, if it just suddenly died out of the blue.

Wiring at the starter
The wiring that terminates at the starter is a darn good place to find a problem. I replaced all of mine, it takes some patience.

Plenty of parts
I stripped it before it was crushed. A complete rear section, rust free. Fenders, rust free. Various components from a 280SE engine.

Elecric pump is fuel pump next to the gas tank.
TTS is the little screw-in 2 wire sensor just above the Fuel Injection pump.. It is in the water jacket.. |
