Pics of my w108

The car had a dead battery. Put in a new Mercedes battery and cranked her up! It appears that the rear cabin courtesy light was left on and this is how the battery got drained. Finally got it out of the garage so I've enclosed some pics. Unfortunately for me it's currently in a different city so my dad is looking after it for now for me until I can work out storage/garage space.

It's a 1968 280se the 3723th produced, I guess this is early production? DB180 silver grey with blue leather and ivory steering wheel. The car has 100,000 miles and has been stored in my aunt's garage since 1990 and driven occasionally to keep it running. I love this car and will be bringing her back into top condition slowly.

Needs a few things like power antenna fixed, leather conditioned, fluids, hoses changed and the grease points done etc...Question...the front end seems to be sagging a bit...is this because it needs new shocks?

Any comments welcome guys!

Mark

sweeeeeeeeeeeet, what a beauty, lets us know specfiic questions and I am sure we can help
front end looks ok to me, these are heavy cars, however if original shocks may need changed, check for bounce fluid loss.
Why don't you just upload pictures here so we can view on this post

If you would lose those infamous bumper guards, you would have a right nice looking baby there. Just kidding! (well, sort of) Very nice! Keep the faith.

Easy to love these old gals Mark, what a nice color combo. Silver with Navy and leather at that! Nice car man. Replace all the rubber under the hood, and I mean injector and gas lines. Serious fire harzard my friend.

Speaking of rubber fuel lines. The other day I was perusing the recalls at the nhtsa and discovered that many 108's and 9's had a recall for fuel line replacement...something about them failing. Might want to check to see if the recall was done.... you never know!

Hmmm is that a Canadian spec car? 1968 was the first year of a Federal DOT mandate for side markers. I see the front amber ones but not the rear red markers...

I just recently bought a 1968 280 SE. Where did you find the production number?

Nice Car

What a beautiful car. I also have an early 68 280 SE that was the 3672 produced. The whole number is 10818-12-003672. Judging from the date sticker on the heater box I think it was built in either February or March. Nice to another early 68!

The front end sagging could be from collapsed sub frame mounts. The engine and tranny mounts are probably collapsed also if the are the originals.

Thanks for the compliment. Wow, this thread came back from the dead.
John. Since the original thread, I've had the tires replaced, the exhaust replaced with original chrome tips (done by Mr. MB in Tarzana), I leatheriqued the interior which really softened up the leather, and it's currently at Burbank Mercedes getting the engine serviced after little use for years.

btw, I removed the accessory bumper guards! They just unscrewed. The only thing is there are small holes in the black rubber strips now...but you have to look close to see them.

I plan to post updated pics shortly!

Nice. Might be a good idea just to close those small holes with some black silicone. At the very least it would stop water ingress deteriorating the chrome.

That's a beautiful car, Mark! I hadn't seen this thread before tonight. I can't wait to see your latest pictures and hear what you've done since you got this car.
