My belt is screaming at me!
I have a 1976 240d with a way loose serpentine belt. I have tried too fix it on my own by loosening the alternater, but I've not gotten the bolts to move. This should be a lot easier than it is, so I figured that I must be doing something wrong. If anyone out there has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Kevin |

This is from memory ...
I think you have a pivot bolt and then a bolt with a star-head in front that you turn to do the adjustment. The star is probably stripped.
So you need to loosen the pivot bolt a turn or two. Then loosen the nut on the back of the star bolt and try to use the front of the bolt to adjust the tension. If the star is stripped, you will need to get a pry bar between the alternator and the block to move the alternator enough to get tension. Hold it and tighten the nut on the star bolt and then the pivot bolt.
