there are parts cars a plenty out there.
You can also upgrade to just about any straight 6. Though if you do, transplant whatever automatic transmission is matched to the donor motor. For a 4-speed, all the tranny's are interchangable if you also change the clutch hardware.

What's wrong with yours? -CTH

Motor

My motor over heated and either needs a head or rebuild not sure. I found a 71 250C motor trannie for real cheap will that work. By the way mine is Automatic the 250C is the same.

it will drop right in. Keep the carbs, tranny & ignition with the motor.
You might find the motor mounts off by an inch. Get everything in and working and then send it to a shop that can cut & reweld one. It's a painless procedure.

Only one problem. The guy that is selling the motor is not very co-operative. He states I bought it as working and has been in my barn for years now I want to sell it. I asked if he can do a compression test. Her said no!! How would you know if an old motor out of a car is good?

Sounds fishy to me, they all ran the last time they were parked/used it seems. I would run away from this motor unless seller gives it up for $100.00 or less. The 250/8 motor had head gasket issues, overheating issues, piston issues. Money spent on this engine could go towards making your 220S engine usable. I would try to at least get it to run before you condemn it.

There are things you can tell easily by visual inspection. He can't do a compression test with the motor out of the car probably.

- Examine the cam for wear, rust.
- Hand crank the engine with the plugs out (Lubricate the cam by hand first).
- Get a compressor and a leak down tester if you have the time for it.
- Look for congealed, green coolant.
- Remove the block plugs and see what if anything comes out. Not the really big guys. The coolant drains should take a 17mm socket.

Offer him half of whatever he wants and be prepared to raise your offer a bit, but not much.

71 220Diesel

Hi wondering if it would be possible to put a 71 220D motor in the 65 220SB? The Diesel is stick and the other automatic?

Unless you already have the manual-shift parts for a Fintail, the W115 220D manual-shift parts won't fit the Fintail sedan. Better off swapping 220D engine & autobox(SLOW!) or 250 engine & autobox. I'd try to get that 220S engine going first.

Happy Motoring, Mark
