HELP~!! I need help... 1971 300sel 6.3

Hey everyone, I'm going to try this again.

I messed up big time and removed all the wires from my distributor cap without marking them. Now I do not know the order that they go in.

Before on this forum, people mentioned that it goes in order by the hash on the distributor itself. But looking at pictures, it does not seem that way.

I need to know what wire (from which cylinder) goes to which plug on the distributor cap.

Please help, I am going crazy trying to figure this one out.

according to this picture, they do not go in order!
If the cylinder numbers are marked as followed, 1 being the furthest away on the right side when facing the vehicle, and 2 3 4 as you get closer, and 5 being the furthest away on the left side and 6 7 8 as you get closer, what is the order on the distributor cap from the hash mark on the distributor?

you'll get some help, just hold tight. I always thought No. 1 on these was right front as viewed from the driver's seat!

#1 is the motor's front right, not yours. In other words, the front cylinder opposite the distributor.

#5 is the other front cylinder.

The firing order is on a cylinder cover (zundfolge). It's 15486372.

For what it is worth, I have a 76 450 and the distributor cap has numbers embossed on it which indicate the wire which should be attached to each terminal. Hard to see as its black on black. Milt.

Easy Fix

Simply pop off the cap, look for the hash mark on the top edge/lip of the distributor, this coresponds to the #1 cylinder. Use the firing order stamped on the PS valve cover "Zunderfolge", to put the wires in the correct order. Remember that the arm spins clockwise.
