Just bought another 6.9 Restoration Project

So its a new year and I have a new W116 project to play with. This one beloings to a friend who lives in IN. He found it sitting behind a furniture wareshouse where it stood for 15 years. It starts on the button but needs some work to fix the 15 years of neglect. It is a 78 Euro Spec car with US bumpers.

Here is a link to some photos taken by the current owner.

Nice car! Suspension looks good after sitting for 15 years. How does it run overall?

Condition

John who is the current owner tells me that it took 90 days for the suspension to go down. To me thats excellent as my car takes about 2 weeks.

The car shows 85,000 miles. John has been around cars long enough to believe that the mileage is genuine. It has however been neglected and possibly worked on by people who do not know these cars. Example, a fuel line was replaced with a poor quality hose (used for windscreen washers). As soon as he ran the car, it gushed fuel all over his floor.

You can see from the link that there is some rust on the car, especially around the door and wheelarches. John says he has not driven the car so I will have to find out the rest for myself.

You're a braver man than me...even simple little M-B's intimidate me, I can't imagine dealing with the behemoth(spelling???). 6.9's are slick cars though, have fun with it.

Great find. I admire you for your sense of adventure.

Looks like a black car with a tan interior, my favorite color combination.

Please keep us posted on the progress. I have enjoyed following the updates on your other 6.9 and 4.5.

What a shame that car sat for so long. Good luck.
