W116 450 sel 4.5 fuel pump relay

Hi All,
Anyone know where the fuel pump relay is hidden on a W116 450 sel and which is the fuse for the pump? The inside of the fuse cover is missing so I have no idea which fuse is for what I'm in Spain at the moment and all my manuals are back in England Any help most welcome

the relay should be at the passenger's kick panel. Not sure if that's reversed for RHD. -cth

Hi,
Car is left hand drive that I bought in England and drove to Spain. I have a home here and plan to move for good in the near future . I'll check that kick panel. Any idea with the fuse?

Regards, Peter.

if it is like a 6.9, inside the underhood fuse box are two aluminum cased "cubes" . one of these is fuel pump relay

On mine if you look down into the fuse box there are 3 relays, the one to the front is the windows, the one to the rear is the start and the one under these two is the fuel pump relay. I see no indication that there is a fuse for the fuel pump. Fuse no. 10 controls something called the" hot start relay" which I don't think I have on mine. I think many of these relays are identical so you might pull one which matches the fuel pump relay and stick it in the fuel pump relay position and see what happens. Milt.

no power to fuel pump

This sounds very much like a problem that I have with a 1973 450se euro model. I can not get power to the fuel pump relay there is a master relay that is supposed to be right next to the pump relay however it is not there. On the 73 there is electonic fuel injectors which are powered from the master relay as well as the pump. I can make the pump run by apliying power to the relay sockets but this does not solve the problem of power to the injectors. Any advice?

Hi,
This sounds like it may be a problem with the injector trigger points which are located in the distributor beneath the baseplate. These send a signal to the ECU so that it powers the injectors at the right moment. Do a search on the net for D jetronic, there are lots of good sites with info that will help you.

Regards, Peter.

Peter: Make sure the smaller wire on the positive battery terminal is connected and trace it if possible. This is the power for the fuel pump relay and if disconnected your pump won't power on even if your main (+) terminal is fine.
