Standard for Automatic Changeout
A friend wants to change out a W123 240D's manual tranny and all associated gear into his normally-aspirated 300D which had automatic.
I am a newbie in this forum, and haven't yet broken the code on how to search for such a thread or procedure, plus only know gassers. I am/we are particularly interested in following issues: length of front driveshaft section (will 240's work); shiftrod length (is tranny in same relative position); can he use 240D flywheel on 300D, or does he need a different/heavier one; cruise control amp mounting on D's (280E/CE are different stick/auto); will speedo drive ratios still work right... Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this or knows someone who did it. Thanks much |

You need to post and/or look over in the diesel forum, as this has been extensively covered there. It is do-able, but best if both complete vehicles are close to each other. Believe there will be some issues with drive shaft and the shifter linkage. Good luck.
