Anyone have or know a 300SLR kitcar?

For years, have wanted to build a 195X 300SLR repro in the dual headrest fairings variant - but all the kits offered that I've found so far are designed to run Detroit (horrors!) chassis under the fibreglas. Some of them offer just frames and bodies; one used to offer bodies only.
Without going to a tubular spaceframe, a la 300SL, my as-yet untried concept would be to design a rather conventional ladder frame to ride on a W111 front subframe (for the kingpin look); mount an M189 at the 40 deg angle, building an appropriate dry sump and intake manifold and engine mounts and tranny adapter to fit, mount a 4-spd from a W111, and use a W114 rear axle carrier/assembly [a little leery of a 111 swing-axle's legendary instabilities under braking - especially in a hybrid, like this...] All using lighter springs, of course, as appropriate for the component weights involved. Anyone know what small-car springs might fit the subframe mounts cited above? VW's? Small BMW's? 190's?
Instrumentation could some from several cars - trying to get the feel of the 50's - era panels, similar to a 300SL's - without having to be the (expensive) same. 220Sb ?
My main thrust (besides actually HAVING all the above basic parts) is to build the whole thing all-Mercedes.

I would travel quite far to look at/study both the Detroit-powered versions and particularly any which used M-B components.

Thanks for any leads or links.

that is a very ambitious project you are contemplating. i think i have seen at least one replica slr with all mercedes components. cant remember when or where i saw it though.

i did see a gullwing replica with modern 103 engine and fiver. the body work was very authentic looking. it was offered by a company that specializes in upper end old cars including such obscurities as dual ghia and hand built ford based sports cars "hyman". finally the name came to me. it is in st louis. there is a second word to the name such as motorcars, not sure what.

i wouldnt be surprised if that car is still offered. they have a website. it is fun to look at it even if they might not have what you are looking for.

if you can find out what company built the gullwing i wouldnt be surprised if they did the slr. or perhaps know who did.
