Dash Trim Question W115
Hi;
Working on my '74 240D restoration. Examining a friend's car, (he has a '75 240D) I noticed that he has thin delicate bright trim rings around the round heater vents at the ends of the dash. Does anybody know if there were different trim packages that treated these items separately, (neither one of us have any wood on the dash) or maybe mine have just been lost to the ages. If it should have them, I'd be interested if anyone has a couple to sell. Thanks much. Drew |

Trim
How fancy do ya wanna get? I believe the all-plastic dash's can take the wood trim, if you want to work a little...
Will check mine for parts... Stan |

Thanks very much for checking, Stan. I really appreciate it.
I'm actually OK with my plastic dash. Luckily it has survived without any cracks. It just seemed curious to me that two cars with otherwise identical interior appointments would differ at the vents. Hence it made me think that I might be missing something on my car. Thanks. Drew |

The chrome rings arn't really glued on and can fall off quite easily over time. The finish underneath is smooth and looks like it should from the factory without the chrome. Someone might have removed the rings from your vehicle in its past.

missing rings
Checked my 220D carcass - sorry, I must have trashed the dash eons ago; and both my 250 and 280 have wood trim whose vents do not have any chrome visible.
For comfort, let's just pretend it didn't have the rings, anyway (which might just be true...) Oddly enough, I seem to remember having seen some offered on eBay not too long ago - check parts and accessories as well as Mercedes W115... Stan |

Thanks very much for checking.
I'll have to watch out for some. It won't bug me too much. I was at the dealership this afternoon for something else. The parts clerk wasn't busy so he and I looked through the parts system, but could find no references. Perhaps they're part of some larger subassembly. Drew |

subassembly, aye
I doubt they were listed separately - as I recall, and someone else mentioned, they come off really easily - I may even have had them on my 250's, before they detached...(memory fails me, at the moment - just a faint recall). Therefore, they would be an integral part of the outlet.

Answer is yes - at least for the w114, see pic.
Mine has the thin chrome rings on them. It is original and complete throughout. The chrome rings are thin. So, I guess the answer is yes, they were there, if that is what you guys are referring to. There are also chrome rings around the lever selectors as you see and there are chrome rings around the instruments, too. The is a w114 1972 250C. Many things changed after 1972, though. I have no experience with the 4 cylinders.

Found some trim rings
Well, I managed to come up with a pretty decent set of these vent trim rings.
Mercedes Source in Bellingham WA had a few. http://www.**************.com Drew |

Hello
ALL W114/115s have the thin aluminium trim rings around the round dash vents and YES they do fall off after 30 odd years. On my W115, the rings around the speedometer and combi gauges fell off too. I used very little clear silicone adhesive to stick all the trim rings back to where they belong. Of course, I polished all the sticky dust off first. No need to buy the new fangled cars with *aluminium trim* around the gauges, our cars had that almost 40 years ago Have a good week. PS My other car has four individual round taillites as well and it went out of production in 1975. Nowadays, every new car has round lites *hiding* in a shaped plastic housing
