The book thread

Here are some books about Mercedes that I've got laying around.
Feel free to add any you have and maybe we can stickify this thread.

"Road & Track, On Mercedes, 1971-1979"
Published by Brooklands Books with permission from Road & Track
ISBN 1 869 826 426

Reprints of road tests & etc from 1971 to 1979. Covers 18 models, including 350SL 4.5, 350SLC, 280SEL 4.5 and so on.

“Mercedes-Benz Technical Companion”
By the staff of The Star and members of MBCA
Published by Bentley Publishers (www.bentleypublishers.com)
ISBN 0-8376-1033-8

“Technical insights on service, repair, maintenance and procedures compiled from over 45 years of The Star, the magazine of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America”

Lots of cool stuff. It’s spread out over 45 years so don’t expect an entire chapter on your model.

“Original Mercedes-Benz Coupes, Cabriolets & V-8 Sedans 1960-1972, The Restorers Guide.”
By Tim Slade
Published by Motorbooks International
ISBN 0-7603-1952-9

Haven’t read this one yet but lots of pretty and detailed pictures!

“Mercedes-Benz Productioin Models Book 1946-1995”
By W. Robert Nitske
Published by Motorbooks International
ISBN 0-87938-190-6

Covers nearly every model produced from 1946 to 1995. I’ve been told it has errors but it still has a lot of good info and a picture of every model. He does use a different model designation scheme. Instead of my 450SEL being a 116.033 he calls it a 116 E45, I think the E45 indicates injected 4.5L engine.

“Illustrated Buyer’s Guide, Mercedes-Benz”
By Frank Barret
Published by MBI Publishing Company. Might be the same as Motorbooks International.
ISBN 0-7603-0451-3

Covers models from 1886 to 1998. As such, it does not go into great detail about each and every model/version. For instance the S class gets a chapter but the 450SEL gets a sentence within that chapter. Everything about the 450SEL gets covered, its just that the actual model number is mentioned once.
The book points out what to watch out for and other models that may be better suited to your needs.

“Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management, How to Understand, Service and Modify”
By Charles O. Probst, SAE
Published by Robert Bentley
ISBN 0-8376-0300-5

Everything you ever wanted to know about Bosch fuel injection but didn’t know to ask.
Covers LH-Motronic, Motronic, LH-Jetronic, L-Jetronic, D-Jetronic, KE-Motronic KE-Jetronic and K-Jetronic. The factory manuals may tell you what to adjust and how much but this book tells you why and I like to know the why and how come.

Another very good book is,

"Mercedes-Benz Saloons, The Classic Models of the 1960s and 1970s"
By Laurence Meredith
Published by The Crowood Press, www.crowood.com
ISBN 1-86126-518-2

Very well written, funny and informative. As the jacket cover says, "Laurence Meredith takes a sideways look at these impressive cars, intertwining history, technical data and anecedote."

Look for chapter sub-headings like "Trans-Stuttgart-Mission" dealing with transmissions fitted to the Fintails and "A Grosser Exaggeration". Betcha can't guess that one.
