CIS hot start regulator?
 

Hey CIS gurus,

I have a temp switch and a chingas on the back of the fuel distributor that the wires have broken off of. I find text references to a hot start regulator and thermo/time switch but not visual ones.

Car starts and runs fine but I'd don't like loose wires in the engine compartment and the harness has drooped enough that forensics can't tell me which wire went where.

If I've ID'ed the things correctly, I can use wire colors to reconnect.

A hot start regulator on a '76 or any other year is news to me, and I can't find any reference to it on the CD. It is not in the wiring diagram that I can find. The only wires that I know of that go to the FD are for the safety switch, but that's on top.

These cars were notorious for hot start problems, so maybe this was an add-on fix.

The wiring diagram for the '76 450SE/SEL shows a "hot start solenoid" rather than a regulator. Page 9, sections 18 & 19

It shows up on the scan from an old hard bound Chiltons that I attached above. The switch does not show up but I indicated it position. It's about 4 times the size of an idle solenoid and sticks out the back of the fuel distributor.

Found it, learn something new every day.

There's a note in the ETM that says that with a warm engine, the relay will open the valve after one second of cranking, for three seconds, and when it is open it provides extra fuel. If the wires were cut, it suggests to me that the relay may have failed and started to provide extra fuel when it wasn't wanted. So I would check out the function of the relay before I hooked it up.

If you agree that what I've pointed out is the hot start solenoid, I may just leave it disconnected as hot starts aren't much of a problem in sunny Seattle:cool:

It looks more like the wires broke off then were cut but I hadn't thought of that.
