diagnostic connector

my 116 series 280S has a black connector in the engine compartment. i have noticed these on most of the 116, 123 and 126 series

what is there use ?there is never a mention of them in the w/shop manuals

anyone know how to use it ?

it connects to the distributor etc to give a dwell reading .I would be interested my self in finding out a lot more myself as i have an unused engine analyser here that would be good for modifying .My idea would be to use it tune various mercs that come through here rather than use the 'Normal' approach which takes a little longer .A plug in deal would what i would end up with...i think.

And if you ever try a tachometer hookup, say pirated from w123 300D, then thats the place to do it...... at least thats what i've been told.
