Hard cold starting 67 200D

was driving 15 mile trip everything was fine. Got there and tried to restart 2 hours later. Engine cranked but no fire. Got towed home. Purged fuel lines looked for obvious vacuaam leaks, still wouldn't start. Gave it a shot of ether and fired immediately. drove fine, started fine while hot. Next day same cold start problem. Any input? thanks

i would suspect the glow plugs first.

be careful with the ether. it is not recommended and may blow your head gasket or crack your head!

Sounds like glow plugs to me. If one goes out, they all do since they are in series. Does the resistor on the dash glow? If not after about half a minute, they're not working. I agree with t walgamuth, use ether sparingly and never with glow plugs active.
