Lubricating water pump W111 220Sb

How much hypoidoil goes in the water pump? Should I just fill it up?

Well now I finally found the info, the pump takes 10 cc. I guess the lower bolt on the pump is the drain. Since there is no level indication it is probably requiered to drain it first. (which I would prefer anyway)

i was thinking there were two plugs on them. like a rear end.

i looked in my books but couldnt find the volumn required. 10cc sounds right, not that i would actually remember.

where did you find it, owners manual?

Yes there are two plugs, one at the side and one on the top. Looking down the top hole I could see no oil at all. I decided not to take off the side plug because I did not want oil on the V belt and pulley. I just gave it 10 cc which far from filled it up, I still could not see the level looking down from the top. The top plug is vented so if there is too much oil in there, it will exit that way.

I have the Service Manual, the volume is stated under capacities. Unfortunately I don't have the full W111 bible, which I would love to....

Yes it is the original one, before the "lubed for life" became popular...

I just replaced the original distributer cap as well. I'm a bit sorry about this because the old brownish looked a lot better than the newer orange one, and it matched the top of the ignition coil and spark plug caps as well. I guess it is not possible to get the old type anymore, except being lucky and finding a NOS somewhere.

it might be a good idea to hold onto the old parts when you take them off. perhaps someday when the car is worth 100k it will be a rebuildable part.

I am keeping most everything taken off this car. It could relatively easy be put into show condition, it has never driven in the winter and always garaged and nursed with a documented 126k km on the clock.

It is the first time I have changed an exhaust, rusted from the inside out with the MB paper sticker still sitting on the underside of the front muffler

The top plug has a little vent hole..Hmm,i dont like those "Lifetime-greased" things, their life is too short...Mine had zero play,no leaks, but had to be changed due to severely rusted impeller...
P.s. the table refers to a Ponton, but the pump can be found on many models up to the mid '70`s...with either 3 or 4 hole flange...
