'77 280E with no AC
Based on what I've read in the forums (searching), the servo controls the heater and not the AC. If the AC works, but is not cold, shouldn't that be a leak or something of the like? Not sure how the servo fits into it.
Cost of servo? Cost of new AC? Anyone know or can guess?

hard to imagine a search on 'servo' that didn't turn up its connection to the A/C.
I think you should look for a leak first or get a recharge. You don't say if it blows cool or not. It would make a difference. More information from you would probably get more response. |

The servo changes the air flap positions, the fan speed and the hot water flow through the heater core. The AC is on at all times (almost) and heat is produced when the servo allows hot water to the core. The AC is off if outside temp is low or if the AC switch is off, unless Fog (Bi-Level) selected.
If you are planning on replacing the servo, you may want to check out this forum's sponsor, Unwired Tools. They offer a digital replacement for the entire system. I'm saving up for one now. Here is a link to the service manual, http://handbook.w116.org/matrix6.htm Michael
