pulling radiator on 108
hi guys. as a consequence of my recent deer hit, I'm trying to yank my radiator for repair or replacement. How innaheck do I get it out? I thought once I undid all the hoses and the rubber tension mounts at the top of each side, it would slide straight up since it appears to be sitting in a channel at either end. BUT, no joy! Something is holding it in place and I cannot find the nut, bolt, screw or other device doing it!!
As always, thanx for guidance. |

Look closely, there are at least two carriage bolts holding the radiator to the oil cooler, IIRC they pass through the A/C condenser. I was able to pull mine and leave the cooler in place so as not to worry about messing up the fittings. Once the two bolts are our, it will still require a little oomph to separate from the cooler but should lift straight out. Be sure to order a new radiator mounting kit from FastLane, it included the side rubbers to insulate the radiator sides from the frame and cooler.

Thanx Mike. Read your 2001 thread about loyalty to your radiator person but it did not help on actually pulling the thing. I saw those two carriage bolts and thought they only connected the rad to the cooler so I was just gonna pull it as a unit. Father's day gift to me will be putzing with the 108 again. Thank you again for sharing your expertise.

I pulled it all as one piece.
Take the shroud off. Disconnect the oil cooler and transmission cooler lines, as well as the 2 rad hoses. Make sure the rubber "o-rings" are off. Then jack it out. Use a small board as a buffer to not crush the transmission cooler or put a hole in it. The front end of the car might lift up a good few inches during this process.

pull harder
it will feel like its still bolted in, but it's just jammed between the rubber mounting pads. Give it a good tug from the bottom of one side, and you should see it shift a bit. Then shimmy it out. I just pulled two last week, and other than the rubber loops at the top, there was nothing bolting the radiator in. (I pulled the rad/oil cooler as one)
