W108 Trunk Gasket Adhesive Advice?

Getting ready to replace the trunk gasket on my 108. Can anyone explain the correct way to attach the new one adhesive wise? Looks like brushing on generous amounts of material would do the trick but is any heat required?

A recommended brand would be appreciated. I usually go for the 3M.

Many thanks.

Stuck on you

The old infamous "gorilla snot" 3-M yellow nasty is about the best stuff I've ever used on weather stripping. It's main draw-back is it is a little tricky to work with as it tends to "flow" from underneath the stripping until it cures completely (up to two weeks depending on the weather). I usually keep a bottle of denatured alcohol and a roll of paper towels in the trunk for the quick wipe off. THROW the paper towel away after you've used it. Nothing like a trunk full of vapors to get your heart racing when they ignite. Don't ask!

3-M contact cement works well also. It's a little more work but it bonds nice and is a lot neater to use. Remember, when you place the stripping in place, you need to have it EXACTLY where you want it. That crap sticks together NOW!
