Do a "search" on the forum. There might be an article in the DIY section.

odometer

I have a 1970 250c that has the same problem. I have been told that the drive wheel for the odometer is loose on the shaft. TRISTAR forwarded instructions on how to fix it. Apparently you can carefully remove the shaft and score it to create a tight interference fit. I hope to tackle it in the near future.

I had the same problem with my W116 a long time ago. Instead of scoring or using Loctite, I replaced the shaft with a piece of 3 mm drill rod (available from any industrial supply house). The original shaft is slightly under 3 mm, so the drill rod gives a good press fit again with the pot metal gear. It was probably 15 years ago that I did this and it still works.

Don't know about the 116, but I suspect it's similar to the 107. A well-known way to break a 107 odometer is to reset the trip meter when the car is moving.
