Considering a W111 64 220S- what to worry about?
There's a cheap finback locally that I want to go take a look at. What are some of the areas that a non-heckflosse-saavy buyer ought to be concerned about?
What are the rust prone areas? What are the parts that always seem to be shot on all parts cars and thus are hard to find? etc. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Rick

Look for rust behinf the front wheels and in the trunk.
There are going to be lots of rubber bits that are bad. Parts can be expensive from the dealer. There are some alternatives but mostly the old parts come from MB. You will need to check the front suspension grease points and there a lot of them. A large grease gun with a flexible hose will let you get to them. The kinkpins need proper greasing. Also, the upper and outer grease point is for the camber adjuster. loosen the nut, and the lock bolt, and try to rotate it. If it doesn't move, the bolt will have to be cut with a torch. The subframe mounts will have to be replaced. The driveshaft, rear axle grease points, trans, if an auto. Getting it running reliabley will take work and money. Get a service manual. I'm not trying to scare you off.
