76 450SL Any help with this gremlin?

Well, I got the new injectors and thanks to david, I also replaced the plastic holder along with the seal. Boy, the o ring on the holder and the seal on the injector were just krispy---really krispy. The car runs so much better WOW.
Now the gremlin. While installing the new FI's, I noticed 3 or 4 vacuum krispies broken. Also my ham fisted tech( me ) broke a couple more. These little tubes look like spegetti and are as fragile. Now --how to repair?
I would like to replace all the tubes, but it's already confusing as to whats what. My Hayes book dosent really cover the issue --neither does chilton.
Does anyone have a vacuum diagram and a " how to " route and replace all those lines?
Thanks
Terry

Don't believe NoData goes back to 1976 only 1980.
Could be wrong....why don't you check for our friend before he blows $20 plus .

I'm moving this to the vintage section, I'm sure someone there will have a diagram from an MB manual or Haynes they can either take a pic of or scan or email to you.

Hi,

I presume your talking about the central locking vacuum lines in which case I've attached a (poor quality) diagram from an SLC but its basically the same as an SL. The normal points of failure are under the hood from the engine heat and the parts that flex when the doors are swung.
If you remove the lower dash panels and look up you can see the lines coming through the bulkhead that then run to the doors, filler cap and trunk. There are also a couple of lines that run to the reservoir in the wing through one way valves. I'd recommend getting a hand vac pump if you havnt already got one to locate any problems rather than trying to expose every bit of hose.

Terry:

You can find most of what you need in the CD ROM manual which is available for $20 from this site:

http://www.classictechlit.mbusa.com/MB/

Unfortunately, the vacuuum and control systems for these cars are not described in a single location. The pdf files for the diagrams are way too large to attach, but if you get the CD ROM look for these job numbers:

7.3-500
80-020
80-900
80-901
80-902
83-020
83-600-2

The plastic tubes may still be available through Phil on this site, or from the Classic Center. However, you can replace them with simple rubber hose if color-codes are not too important to you.

If you email me these ( axia@axiasoft.org ) I can upload them and post them for Terry and future members to reference - I'll stick them on my site ( http://benz.axiasoft.org )

I have a PDF here that I am going to link to. It looks like it's for the vacuum lines on the firewall. This should be what you are looking for. It is 752kb, I HIGHLY suggest you right-click, save as, and NOT just click the link. I personally hate opening PDFs in my browser and think it's the biggest PITA with PDF files ever.
