Shot Emissions. need timing

Hi all,

My 72 250 M130 came with emmission controls that retard the advance to 4 ATDC. Unfortunately the dashpots are shot and MB no longer sells them.

What should the timing on this vehicle be set to?

Thanks

F2050-118132 - sold on here on MercedesShop.com for $52.95 - should be what you're looking for. There are two variations of it from what I see, though - and the other I don't see listed. Otherwise, the timing should be set ~12° more advanced - so to 8° BTDC - without the vacuum retard on.

If you have the dual-purpose one that has 2 lines - one for advance, one for vac, I'm unsure. If you have the single-purpose unit, it's a vac retard (Not advance) and if it's not working properly you need to set timing to 8° BTDC w/o vac. It would be 4° ATDC with vac. If the unit IS working properly, setting to 4° ATDC w/vac connected, then unplugging the vac line would reveal 8° BTDC.

Yes, the advance/retard is working. Makes sense. Thanks.

After disconnecting the retard, the RPM's shoot up to about 2k. I'm having trouble lowering them back to 800.

When adjusting the idle adjuster, turning it one way make it expand and the other retract. Is expanding slowing the speed or the other way around?

Thanks again.

George
