It looks really elegant and beautiful, and the background really flatters it, you could be in England. Too bad you can't keep the car, it'd be a great stable mate for your new 111 coupe.

I bet the coupe will look REAL nice when you're done, it's interior needs nothing, so you're ahead of the game there

Thanks for the positive comments Jim. It is a really nice car. It needs the least work of any MB I've owned and it was clearly taken care of. I'm in no rush to sell it and I'd like to see it go to an appreciative MB enthusiast. If it stays in the garage for a while it won't bother me a bit.

Have to say the response to this (my) car 4-sale has been underwhelming. Any of you fellas see something I am missing?

Your ad looks good. I don't know what you're asking for it, but one reason why the response might be low is that the average guy looking for a W108 probably desires a 4.5 liter V8.

Missing

Well Shab. If I had disposable income I'd jump at it, despite the repaint. It's the exact same color as my 71 280S which was my first Mercedes and in my opinion possibly the best color for these cars. Perhaps the comment on people preferring the V8 is correct. Apparently these 6 cylinders in the US had a gear ratio that makes highway speeds less relaxing than they would have had overseas. Maybe the V8 is better there. Maybe the price is just too high for a non V8 with possible tranny problems. Also although it might be working fine now taking on a car of that age with fuel injection might scare some folks off.
Just some idle thoughts. It really is a nice car though. Do you *really have* to sell it? It's an ideal stable mate to the W111. I think your wife should be reasonable. What's a Nissan anyway?

Much better..
The 4.5 V8 uses a 3:27 diff. , as compared to a 3:92 for the M130....big difference at cruise RPMs.
As a matter of fact , it is common pactice to change out the 3:92 for the 3:27 on these M130 powered swing axle chassis.....

It's always easier to buy than to sell...

In order for me to sell my W108 I have to commit to replacing the heater core/blower motor or else it was practically unsellable. The best offer I had "as-is" was much less than I was willing to sell it for even though it is otherwise beautiful and nicer than 99% of them out there.

The heater box project is one which I never wanted to do myself but now am facing the reality that it really needs to be done to get anywhere near the price I think the car should bring.

So I found a couple of ambitious techs and we are going to tackle this project next week, as a 2-3 man team. Then, my buyer has committed to pay close to my asking price and I will only lose like $2500 on this car, and mine is the 4.5L V8

If the buyer backs out I will at least have the heater working again. He's going to give me a deposit to cover the cost of the project before I start so I have little to lose.

Lessons learned...although I like the W108 I have now decided this is my last one.
