TDC Transmitter

Is the TDC transmitter just used in the diagnosis aspect of the system? I see the TDC transmitter connects to the diagnosis socket. In other words could the car operate with the transmitter unhooked?
Another question, the C.D. mentions using some kind of hydralic fluid to lubricate the accelerator linkages. Does anyone know what the reasoning is behind that and could I just use some light oil. Milt.

TDC transmitter.

Got an answer from a mechanic. The TDC is only necessary for diagnosis. The car would run with it disconnected. Milt.
