Leaky power steering

Hi all,

I just noticed a big oil leak under my vehicle. Turned out to be the PS pump. Anybody replaced the seals on these things? how big of a job is it?

Looks like there are 2 sets for my vehicle, 72, 250 M130. How do I tell wich one I need?

Thanks

I don't know about replacing seals but if you decide to go for a rebuilt I recommend these guys:

http://mbpumps.com/

I bought a pump for my SL from them about 2 years ago. Their price was about 1/2 everyone else's, theu gave good service and the pump's been fine since so I always give them a plug.

Usually, this is the shaft seal, which is fairly inexpensive on the internet. Phil has them for about 10 bucks. You pull the pump, remove the pulley, pry the old seal out, tap in the new one, put the pump back on and you're done.

Phil runs PartShop, one of the sponsors of this Forum. See the "Buy Parts" button.

First, get a small fluid pump and get as much PS fluid out as you can, Then unfasten the hoses from the pump.

Then, IIRC, you loosen two bolts that hold the pump to the bracket, then you loosen the adjuster and push the pump in toward the engine so you can remove the belt. Then you remove two or three bolts/nuts that hold the bracket to the block and the pump and bracket come off together.

Not a fun job.

I noticed that one of the bolts on the bracket is behing the crank pulley.

how do you get to that one?

is it possible to leave the bracket in place and just remove the pump?

It just says to unscrew those bolts.

Whatever works. I did mine a while ago, and took it out with the bracket. If you send me an email, I will send you the chapter off the CD.
