'73 450SE W116 value?
Can someone give me any idea if a 1973 450 SE with no rust and only 60K miles has any long term value? Whats it worth today and much future appreciation? Havent seen it yet, just doing some homework here.
Thanks

It's worth buying only if you like it. The 116 lacks the classic mercedes styling needed to be classic Mercedes. It has too much chrome to be a modern Mercedes. They are an excellent driver though. Handling, ride, roominess, safety are all excellent. It has a more nimble feel then the 126 that replaced it. The sad truth though is at resale time, unless its a 6.9 they just dont bring the $$. (with some odd exceptions) If I had to guess on value 2K to 4K.

Check every aspect out re: previous owner(s)?
And if it actually has only 60K, drives good and is in really good shape, you can always justify and remember it as the European Car of the Year in 1973.
$4K seems pretty low as the high range for a Mercedes S-class that can be driven for another 220K miles, IMHO. Cheap to insure, for sure! Buy a couple parts cars and you may never need to buy another sedan again. Gas mileage is lousy. Ride is great. How's the interior? Cheers!

Is this car in NH?
If the seller is letting this go for 4k I'd love to take a trip!

First year of the series and that means alot. Last 6 digits of serial number will tell you how many were built before it. I'd like to know the appointments: manual sunroof and heat controls? Also classic color combo helps with value: silver with blue or better yet black interior? Deffinitely check it out or pass the connection privately onto Tomguy. Owned a '77 Euro 280SEL and it handled like a polo pony, unbelievably tight and nimble with zero sway. No mystery that Hollywood stunt drivers love the 116.

73 would be a good one
The 73's are the ones to go for. They have the Chrome small bumpers like the Euro cars and the none of the emissions stuff that bogged down the later
450's. It also has the D-Jetronic EFI injection (love it or hate it). You should see a definite power increase over the newer US spec cars. Watch out for rust, look everywhere , especially the floor pan under on the drivers side. Lift the padding between the carpet and the floor for a proper inspection.
