Mechatronix 113

This weekend was the annual mid-Atlantic gathering of the 113 guys. It was a lot of fun - probably a dozen cars, good food, and Gernold Nisius of SL Tech dished on various 113 features. But the absolute highlight of the day was the chance to inspect the first Mechatronix 113.

These cars are completely restored as in new everything 113's with 3.2 liter V6's and associated running gear, modern seats, climate control, suspension, brakes, sound, etc. All maintaining the look and feel of the 113's. I am attaching some pictures that truly do not do it justice. It is an absolutely new car. very impressive.

So, if you have 100 large (euros) and a donor 113, this may be the car for you! Contact SL Tech in Maine for details.

Very nice

I've never heard of these before, Chuck. That is a fine-looking car. Where was this event?

Does SL Tech have a web site?

Thanks. That IS impressive. The pictures on their site look like a car that had been completely disassembled, refinished, and rebilt. Is that what they commonly do? I can see how that would cost a lot.

It must be very satisfying to drive one when they're finished, though.

The other interesting thing is that at this time last year, that car was a decent but tired Dark Red/Tan car with about 106K from (I think) New York.

I wonder how many 113's this "god of the pagode people" builds each year. Just knowing there are people out there doing this kinda work encourages everybody. Probly the most intense independent MB restoration specialist we've ever seen, hidden away up there in Maine backwoods but deserves world-wide recognition. Wouldnt be surprised if he's building pagodes for customers all over the globe.

Reminds me of http://www.mbgrand600.com/. Karl Moddlehauve provides a similar service for the m100 cars-really impressive stuff.

cheers,

Hey! There's a (fuzzy) pic of the ski rack

There's a pic of the ski rack in one of the 113 links above. I've never actually seen one. Cool.

When I lived in Chicago, there was a "no-name on the door" restoration shop in La Grange/Brookfield, Illinois, in the early 80's on Ogden Avenue that restored 113's, some other MB's, and I did see one 107 in their window once. When they were done, you basically got a new car.

Little known fact: The co-inventor of the integrated circuit (Jack Kilby), owned a 113 that he had from new in the mid-60's. Every five years or so, he would have in put in a shop and have it completely redone. AFAIK this is the car he had when he died a few years ago.

Yes. I have not asked the owner of the car, but I believe SL-Tech was the "go between" in the deal. Gernold at SL-Tech is widely known in the W113 community and it just might take a person like that to get in the door at Mechatronic? Don't know. Join and ask at www.sl113.org/forums to find out!
