Field of dreams...well, sort of

I just found a guy near where I live who has ALOT of MB's from 1960 thru 1990 just sitting, rotting, many of them, with no hope of getting this guy to sell parts or anything from them. He has finnies thru sdl's just doing nothing but sitting there. His wife says he won't sell anything. Every car is complete as far as I can tell. So, why do people hord cars like this? I've run accross people who do this with all makes and models. Why do they do this?? In between the cars were pens and pens of dogs, one W115 had a cat living in it. The car was in decent shape... The point is, why??? This psychological problem baffles me. Obviously he is a horder. But it just upsets me that so many good cars and people could benefit from this "collection", yet it is not accessible!!! Any insight folks??? BTW, she would not allow photos of any kind to be taken of anything and she threatened me if I say anything about where she lives. I left my name and number for her husband to call me. Like that will happen...

it is a type of mental illness.

i know a fellow here in laf who seems normal in every way. intelligent personable etc. he goes around and gets things out of dumpsters etc and takes it home. he used to own several houses that he aquired various ways and lost because the local governments ordered him to clean them up and he didnt. so eventually they send in dozers and clean it all up, doze the home and file a lien on the property.

sad. but he cannot stop collecting and cannot bear to give any of his "treasuer" up.

there is a guy over in logansport with six or seven benzes all lined up next to his business that he would like to sell but he wants an astronomical price for cars that are not much and wont sell except as a package deal. so ten years later they rust quietly away.
