W115 Radiator Rail Support Compatability Question

Hello,

I am wondering if someone on the list might be able to help me confirm whether I can use the radiator support rail (runs under radiator and bumper attaches to ends) from a 1975 240D on my 1970 220 (gas)? I know that the location of the bumper attach is different and I definitely want to keep my original 1970 220 bumper set up.

If anyone has access to a parts manual I would greatly appreciate any info.

Mike.

I have a parts catalog for w115 dated 1973. It shows the lower rad support with the earlier/ euro bumper supports. (see pic) .. The close up of the end of the support from my '75 (built 12/74) parts car is the same as what is pictured in the parts catalog. The newer bumper supports are welded on the sides and bolted to the top of the support. The support ends have the threaded inserts in the holes, the welded tab from the new style bumper bracket could be taken off with a grinder.
It appears that the bumper brackets were just added to the chassis destined to be US spec. instead of designing a different lower rad support for the US.
