Wondering about a W116 300SD

Hi,

I am thinking about a W116 300SD. My impression is that all these cars have full power: AT, PW, PDL, auto climate control, and an active air-controlled suspension. Is that right? Are there any out there without any of these features?

Thanks,

Roy

116 300SD's dont have an air suspension but in all other respects you are correct. Biggest issue is rust. You'd need to look most carefully at that. Second would probably be the climate control.

nothing else to add.

If you find one without rust and climate control in working order, you got yourself a keeper. They are nice cruisers.

The 116 is a real drivers car. Get it and enjoy.

Thanks for the info

Thanks guys. I would love to find a big diesel mercedes--that I like the looks of--without all the power stuff. There is not an easy way to convert those climate controls to a more-manual set up? I asume not, as everyone writes about how much a problem they are.

i have an 1980 116 300sd. It has been well taken care of before I bought it. Rust free and plenty of life left. They are great looking cars. I prefer them over the 126's. The parts are a bit more difficult to come by, but overall if you keep your head up looking for a good parts car you can save a bundle. I just found a good parts car i am going to pick up tomorrow. LIke the guy said above check it for rust...

Last week I bought a 79 300SD to use the 617 engine in my W126. After backing it off the trailer and taking her down the road a ways I'm in love. It's a keeper.
What's it mean when you find yourself waxing the parts car?
No rust at all but it has a dead CC servo. AC works fine. Back seat cushion is compost.
129K miles showing on a working odometer.

I like it!

If you find a good one, buy it! I sold mine to a forum member last year and regret it every day. The car had SOUL.....
