6.9 axles

Anybody know if the axles on a 6.9 are unique to the 6.9, or are they the same as another car? I seem to recall somebody once saying they were compatible with a 126, not sure which model.

thanks
Fred

Fred, it is the same as a 126.120 300SD, 126.134 350SD & 126.135 350SDL. MB part number 126 350 69 10.

Rusty is on the button

You need to look for early W126 axles or replace the whole hub assembly on the 6.9 with the later w126 (420SEL / 560SEL).

I considered this when I had to replace mine but then found a set of NOS axles for sale locally.

I still have my old ones in case I need to rebuild them.

swapped mine out when the suspension dropped and tore up the boots. used axles fron a early 126 and swapped the differential from an other 116. believe it is a 3.07 ratio for a little more off the line zip. the culprit of the drop was a dried out link end in the leveling valve, check yours out while you're back there

Chemanic, I'm liking the sound of that 3.07 diff ratio! What model is it from and did you retain Limited SLip Diff?? Do you post on m-100.cc? Lots of 6.9 owners there.

pulled it off a 450 sel. if you want a lower set of gears try the 6 cyl bodys, seems like the less horsepower the engine puts out the engineers make up the difference in the rear gears. regarding the limited slip, mine had gone south at some earlier point in time so while the swap does not offer the limited slip it was no downgrade for me. the speedo will be off 20% but i think since it is a cable drive maybe it would be wise to use the speedo from the donor differential car to correct that issue. engine revs at 3000 at 55mph, still plenty of torque left!

If I was smart, I would have asked Rusty in the first place!

Actually I had to replace my diff a few years back, came as a complete rear end so I have my original axles. They are fine, I just need to sell them since they are gathering dust and I wanted to know what they would fit.

I did replace the adjustment rods on both my front and rear leveling valves. BEWARE! The new ones had shorter threads on the ends by quite a bit so if you need to lengthen the rods you will run out of room FAST. (this lowers the car)

I used my old threaded parts and was okay, otherwise they would not have worked (I was trying to lower by an inch).
