280 engine pieces

I've found a pretty good deal locally on most of an m110 engine. Good block, 3 pistons, 6 rods, great-condition crank, oil pan, dohc head, and automatic transmission. No valve cover, no cams, no accessories. I'd like to pick it up, complete it, and use it in my '68 230S, but I'm not really sure where to pick up the rest of the parts.

Is there a port injection manifold available for this engine? I'm looking at setting up a megasquirt system, and I'm considering the 280 mainly because it was available with EFI, so it seems like it should be easier to use with standalone than my 230 would be.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks!

-Matt

It'd probably be a lot cheaper for you to pick up a running good engine, than to complete this one. Those are my thoughts

I'll have a set of us-spec cams available soon if you need 'em.

I'm also going MS on the new engine buildup. We should compare notes along the way.

exactly.

the only exception is if you managed to find another engine with the parts you need.

making your engine into a runner will be very expensive just for the parts that you already know you need. the unknown will be probably more.

good block? As in no ridge on the top of the cylinders? Hold onto it and get a complete used motor. There are no shortage of shabby 280/8 cars out there that can donate a motor. -CTH

even a good block will have a carbon ridge at the top.

It looks like I've found a donor for a nice 280 engine...hopefully it'll still be there in a few weeks when I've got the money. I may still pick up the block/crank/pistons/rods/head as spares or to sell.

Cephallus, one of my good friends just finished a computer engineering degree, and his last 3 semesters all featured projects using the MC9S12C64 processor, so I should be a step ahead in getting that set up too. I'll definitely get in touch with you as I start getting into the process.
