1965 220s? should i buy (cheap)

I have the opportunity to buy a 1965 220s extremely cheap . It has faded red paint on the outside and a few dings but is all there. The owner has had the car for about two years and has never started it. They where given it when the owner left overseas.
Is the 220 engine a good engine? Are they hard to find parts for or hard to keep running? This is a six cylinder engine right? One or two carburators? I like the car alot but want more info on the engine/ your opinions on the car itself.

thanks

Rory

If the engine still turns and the floor and body is solid, I'd say go for it. Most mechanical parts are still availible. Body parts & chrome may require patience to find, via eBay and other sources. With dual-circuit power front discs, availible power-steering, and factory anchors for lap AND shoulder belts (if you should want to upgrade), the '65 is possibly the best of the 220 Fintails. The twin Zenith carbs can be tricky to get right but are (IMHO) more DIY friendly to revive than a neglected fuel injection system. You didn't say what tranny that car has. The early automatics tend to be jerky and rob power. That small-six is happier with the 4-speed manual, most often found with a steering-column shifter. A rare 220 Fintail option, besides the sunroof, is the manual floorshift.

Happy Motoring, Mark
