W130 Fuel Pump and Power St. Pump
I having been putting off a couple of projects until I had time to deal with them, and now I do. The benz is a '72 250C with a W130V dual zenith 32/40 INAT.
Fuel Pump has been dripping lightly under high engine rpm and flow has been light. When I gave her a lot of throttle going up hill, the carbs became starved. I found a new one (glad it was the $40 one and not the $250). I also had a leaking PS system. I thought that the front seal on the power steering pump was leaking. I also had a weaping high pressure hose. Once I removed the pump (pain in the butt) and pulled off the pully (easy) I see that the pump seal is in good shape My question is two fold: (1) Should I replace the front seal on the ps. pump even though it appears to be in good shape? (2) How much fluid can a high pressure hose weap? |

With the pump out and pulley off, go ahead and replace the seal, even if it looks OK. It's possible for the seal to be worn enough to leak fluid, or sometimes it will even allow air into the pump.
The hp PS hose is a judgement call. It may just weep for years until someday it springs a major leak. Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks for the input. I have replaced the front seal, "can of corn" and cheap too. I also had the local House of Hose make a new high pressure hose for the ps pump.
I am going to put the ps system back together tomorrow and I am a little confused on the location of the bleed nipple. Do I even need to bleed the system or will the air work itself out with the cap off and the engine running? |

You can burp the PS system by raising the front wheels, starting the engine, and turning the steering wheel full circle several times, with the resevoir cap off. You will see the air bubbles vent. You may have to add some fluid.
