How to pump up air suspension with non-running motor in 6.3?
My father has a 70 6.3 which has been in storage for a number of years. Since the air suspension would tend to leak slowly over time, it was stored blocked up so not to rest on the tires/collasped bellows. Now for the catch 22- we need to move the car to another building because the motor won't start. But since the motor won't start, we can't pump up the air suspension to move it so we can work on it to get it running. Is their an alternative way to pump up the air suspension other than with the motor so we can move the car?
Thanks, Marc in Indy |

Im not sure if it will work, but there is a bicycle type inflator on the tank in the drivers side fender. The inflator is on the front lower half of the tank.

That is the air storage tank. MB provided a set of rubber blocks that could be used for emergencies and inserted into the suspension at each corner of the car, to get you home/on a flatbed/whatnot. Unfortunately only the rubber pieces are available today, though the rear two blocks also require a metal bracket into which the rubber blocks are pressed, which is no longer available. I recreated several dozen of these sets several years ago but they are long gone. Your only option really is probably to try to pump up the tank using the Schrader valve that it has (along with an air compressor) or to create your own blocks out of short sections of 2x4 to be able to move the car.
Attached is a copy of the factory manual that shows the blocks: Good luck, Cheers, Gerry |

www.big-toys.net sells a set of schrader valves you put into the air lines so you can pump up the bags without the air compressor working.
http://www.big-toys.net/detail.cgi66.htm I don't know if there is anything special about these, in other words they might be available elsewhere, but I don't know what thread type is required.
