Bosch Super Copper W8DC would do..... although I like NGK BP5ES....
Preference call. Orig would be W7DC, but a heat range hotter is usual for older engine. |

I, too, would like to hear some opinions on this. My '68 220 is in need of a good tuning-up, and I was just yesterday wondering if I should seek a hotter plug. (All my driving lately has been short-trip commuting in the freezing cold weather, and I can barely get my engine up into the normal operating range.)

Well, the car is running for about a half-hour each way going to and from work. It's just really freaking cold here lately (like 10 degrees F in the mornings), and no matter how long the engine runs, it just never gets really "warmed up."
At any rate, I don't mean to hijack this thread. Apologies to mbz72.

30 mins should be more than enough to warm your engine. You probably need a new thermostat!
As for plugs: Stock ignition or not?

Mine has the old original breaker-points ignition, stock as far as I know.
And for some reason, the thermostat had not occurred to me. I always associate it with summertime problems, I guess. /giving thread back to rightful owner, I swear

My 280SE 4.5, 250C, 280SE M130 all ran or currently run great on the NGK's and the NGK BP5ES. Great plugs. Ran NGK in all my Kawasaki 1000cc crotch rockets for years as well. Great plugs, never an issue. Have them in my M129 250SE coupe as well. That's my 2 cents.

Good Call,
but did the manual not state to use champion spark plugs? I think they list 2-3 different ones. cK

cK:
Personal preference for plugs...NGK BP6ES. This is the listed replacement. Seem to be best all-round for me and I have hot summers, cold winters, short drives to work, long haul trips, a 4.5 V8 and an old six cylinder with carbs...same plug works great in both engines. Wouldn't use anything else. Use NevrSeez on the threads. 230/8 |
