New here, with "new" 114 280C

That I just picked-up over the weekend. Needed a good runner for knocking-around town and wound-up with a pretty good deal. The image with the wheel covers is one from the seller. The image with the "bundt cake" alloys is one I shot this morning with my cell phone. I took the car up to the slopes (Seattle - skiing) yesterday and am impressed with how it performed.

The exterior has a fresh, nicely prepared and applied finish. Mechanically, the car is about 7.5 out of 10. The plugs load-up after a few hundred miles (so I'm told). They were replaced when I picked the car up and it ran very well after. When the old plugs (which couldn't have been more than a few months old) were shown to me, they were somewhat wet with fuel (comments, anyone?). The interior is another story. Origninally blue, someone decided black would be just right. I agree, however, not the way it was carried out. A brush was used to apply the black paint to the dash and console. The paint is peeling from many areas. The seats and side panels were sprayed.

Anyone happen to have a spare "280C" trunk emblem on hand? Please let me know and what you need for it. Also, any leads on an original M-B tex black interior would be great. The car is a 1975 if that helps.

Nice looking, I have a black console out of a 280 W114 would it fit the coup?
I also have a lot of pieces parts for the W114 if I can help. Just sold the 280 rear designation, but do still have the star.
Wet plugs - could be running rich, too cold of a plug, compression issue, what color are the ends, and are they gapped properly?

Use the 'Search' feature....

for many issues already discussed. If you are not getting responses, it's probably 'cause the topic was dicussed in the past. I assume you have a Solex carb.

Welcome aboard.

Congratulations!!!

The 280c has always been one of my favorite vehicles EVER. I remember when I first bought mine and how great it was to tool around town.

Anyhow, I'm looking at a parts car, for other parts for mine, in a couple of weeks. If I pick it up this parts car, I'm sure that there will be plenty of parts that I won't need. I'll post a spreadsheet. If it has the emlem, I'll send you an e-mail.

Until then, welcome to the forums.

I'd hate to sell my running but surface rusty '71 250C just for it's interior but I hate letting it sit out front even more.

It runs great, drives fine, has a good black interior and new tires. All it really needs is new paint. And a new owner.

Any how, you might try cleaning your interior with rubbing alcohol or a glass cleaner with alcohol. It seems that some vinyl paints come right off with alcohol.

Michael
