I finished polishing our 1964 230SL inside and out and it took me about 6/7 days (currently I hate chrome trims inside a car).
It is the first time that the car got polished after the restoration was finished 7 years ago (I don't like washing and polishing cars that much; I prefer to use them).

Anyways; here are some of the pics I recently took:

Since I had to suffer that long to get that car polished, I figured you should suffer looking at it!

greetingz,

Looks great! Almost enough encouragement for me to get off of my duff and polish mine .... Nah. I also prefer to drive my cars than spend time with the cosmetics. Your polished manifold looks super. I also have a polished manifold but have not found the time in the last year to put it on. The issue is not really the manifold but the "when I have it off, I need to also ......" It goes on an on. Currently getting my 190SL ready for the trip to Leadville in July. Next is a MGB in pieces (the body has been back from the paint shop since March) and then my 230SL engine compartment (the rest of the car looks good). Maybe next year. Enjoyed your pictures

Thanks for the compliments...it almost makes it worth the time spent polishing the car.

Jim, I am looking around for a 190SL myself as well. I want to get one that is complete and in definite need of restoration, but the only ones I found sofar are still expensive (20.000 Dutch guilder / 8500-9000USD) for a rusted, worn and broken/not running 190SL is actually too much.

greetingz,

190SL for sale

MBENZ,

If you will email (bstreep@satx.rr.com) me off line, I know of a car you might be interested in. It is in Arizona and has NO frame rust on it. After talking with the owner (the family has had it for about 30 years), it sounds like a perfect candidate for a good restoration. It is complete including the original Solex carbs (webers are currently installed), but needs paint, some minor body work and interior. The big deal here is that the frame and underside sheet metal are in great shape.

Beautiful car and very nice engine detail. One question, is that the original engine? I thought the 230SL had the 6 plunger injection pump while the 220SEb/c had the 2 cyl injection pump.

I do like the polished aluminum, very nice touch.

That is an interesting question on the injectors. All six of my injector lines wrap around the front of the engine. It is hard to see how these lines are plumbed but they are different than mine.

You have a trained eye for detail!!! NO, it is not the original engine. We do have an original engine by now, but the car came with this 2 cyl injection pump and it is just running to good (after it has been restored completely) to exchange it for something else.

greetingz,
