Anyone have any experience with this?

Hey everyone,

My 73' 280c is by far my favorite car I've owned to date. However, its got cancer problems. I've been searching for a good california body with a busted engine and/or trans to swap mine into. I've found a 250c that looks like a good candidate (all of the 280s I've looked at have been junk), and was wondering if anyone has had any experience swapping the engine from a 280 to a 250. Can you anticipate anything quirky that I would need to pay attention to?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Greg

I'm not sure but I think you should be golden if you pull the engine and transmision.

I have been thinking of re-shelling my 71 250CE when I bring it from the UK.

All the best

Al

Ummm, I believe you are going to have some problems. Nothing insurmountable but some problems.

The M110 has the intake on the left side. The M130 is on the right side. Carb linkages need to be swapped. I don't think the exhaust set-up will work as is. You will probably have to have the exhaust down pipes altered. Some electrical connections will have to be modified. The sensors on the M130 are on the opposite side of the M110.

I am right now swapping a M115 from a '71 220 into a '72 250. I'm lucky in the fact the M115 is carbed on the same side as the M130. I have to change the exhaust but other than that it's pretty much a straight swap- so far. Time will tell.

Double check the rear sub-frame socket on the front sub-frame. For whatever reason they seem to be extremely prone to rusting on the 250C. Of course you can't see it until you decide to replace the mounts. They are an easy fix. I can walk you through the fix if you need it.

You might try Tri-star Pete in Phoenix, Az. for a rust free shell. He's got a pretty good selection. Az cars have no rust. Of course we have no paint, interior or rubber bits left on the cars but no rust.

It's my understanding that the battery tray may have to be relocated. Also the tubular braces from the frame rails to the firewall may need to be moved/removed to clear the wider twin-cam head.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Exclamation Used Body WARNING !!!!

There's plenty of cheap 250C's here in Ca. but most are rusty ~ not terribly so but I keep finding E-Pay cars and going to look at these " perfect rigs only to find holes in the passenger side floor and or rocker panels so bad I cannot jack it up....
