Well... Heard some odd noises..a popping noise.... I decieded to check it out... here is what I found....

I'm thinking that the worst part will be getting off the old parts. Soak with penetrating fluid.
Putting on the new ones shouldn't take more than a few minutes per side. (not including jacking up the car and removing the tire)

Do both sides (just in case you were thinking of only doing one side)

So it's a pretty easy job once old parts are off? That's good to know.........

17mm wrench and a pair of vise grips and your good to go. Probably take longer to get the tire off than to change the link.:rolleyes:

Hi, I am in your exact predicament... my car had the same type of old sway bar links on as yours... I have ordered the new type of links (just $8.00 each compared to $26 each for the old type)... Several people from this forum advised me to go for the new, cheaper type, saying that they are perfectly compatible. Mine are on the way, I'll install them tomorrow night.
Perhaps you are still in time to change the order and go for the new type of sway bar links, it will save you almost $40 on one pair (provided, of course, they are compatible with our cars... as of me, I'll find out tomorrow)

Just to report back that I changed the sway bar links in my '79 240D and the cheapo links fitted perfectly... also all the popping/clunking/banging/rumbling noise I was experiencing is totally gone... and it is a very easy job to perform...
