Window problem 73 450SL help please?
Hi,
I have a 1973 450 SL. My passenger door window slid down and then clunked to the bottom of the door and I can no longer make the window go up. Here is the info I have: The window relay switch is newish (replaced last summer). I have opened the door by taking the panel off. The window is properly seated in the scissor mechanism (sorry I don't know the part name!), which seems to work fine, and the motor works fine. The scissor arm that is near the "D" shaped gear is not attached to the "D" gear; there is a white plastic rectangle with a round hole the size of a dime that appears to slide back and forth on this arm. When I press the window control button the "D"gear rotates but does not push up on the arm. If a helper manually pulls and holds the window up, pressing "down" on the control will pull the window down, but the nchaism does not push the window up on it's own. The arm with the plastic rectangle is behind the "D" gear when viewed from inside the car. Does anyone have a photo or diagram of how these two parts are supposed to go together? ******** Arizona sells the window regulator assembly and it includes the scissor mechanism with the "D" gear, would it be wise to simply replace the entire assembly? Spring hit this week in Ottawa and it is making me slightly insane to not be driving the car. Any help would be most welcome!!! best wishes, Deidre |

deidreb,
i personally would at this point replace the entire window regulator assembly. new ones aren't cheap but you may be able to find a good used one somewhere... for future reference you might want to try posting in the SL and/or Vintage forum; you'll probably get more replies than from this forum. |

update: Found broken parts in bottom of door
After rooting around I found some broken parts (one plastic and one metal) that seem to connect the assembly. I'm guessing I do have to replace the whole thing at this point.
Thanks for the advice on posting in the SL/Vintage forum. I was actually sent to this forum from another web site. best wishes, Deidre |
