Removing the 6mm socket screws on crankshaft pulley - I'm stuck!

I got 4 of these 6mm allen head bolts loose, but the other 2 are stuck (and I mean stuck!) and now stripped. What do I do now? Talking about my '72 250, BTW. Thanks.

Darn the luck. They have a great socket that will slip over the outside of the screw and "grab" into it. You should be able to find one at a good autoparts store, or at the local ace hardware (I would go to the latter first as it is likley to be cheaper). his may be your only shot at removial:

Soak in PB Blaster or other "penetrating lube" for as long as you can wait (24 hours would be ideal). Then you may be able to use a torch to heat the screw first, but I would check with one of the other guys before doing this as it may "anneal" the metal thus destroying the temper in the end of the crank shaft if over-heated. A little heat does go a long way. Then try to remove.

What ever you do, tread lightly because it is easy to twist off the cap screw if too aggressive (the next step after stripping in my experience).

BTW I sent the INAT parts out Wed. You may see them today.

Good Luck

Blue

A 1/4" hex bit is just a little bigger than 6mm. Use that with an impact driver.
Sometimes they don't come out. Drill off the head and replace the screw, usually the threads that remain are not seized in the flange.

I got them! Bought an Irwin product - Bolt Grip - at an Auto parts store and it worked liked a charm. Thanks for the suggestions.

Blue, I got the package today - thanks a bunch. I already installed one.
